What is sushi rice?

One of the main reasons why Japanese rice is used is of courseSushi. It is not an ordinary type of rice, but a special sushi rice. What makes this sushi rice so special? Well, that is actually quite simple. Good quality sushi rice has (almost) no grains. This allows it to stick together well and you can make the best sushi. For example, think of making deliciousOnigiri.

Nishiki rice

Another Japanese rice variant that you will find in our range is Nishiki rice. It is of high quality and also suitable as sushi rice. What makes this Nishiki rice so special is that it is super premium-grade short-grain rice. What short grain rice exactly is, we will explain to you later. Despite the fact that it belongs in the Japanese kitchen, this Nishiki rice is produced in Italy. This does not mean that it is not Japanese.

Short grain rice

The name actually says what this short grain rice is. It is rice with grains that are somewhat smaller than 'regular' rice. The most well-known varieties of this short grain rice are the sushi rice mentioned above and American short-grain brown rice. While cooking this rice, you will notice that the rice will clump together. This makes it ideal for making sushi and eating with chopsticks.
